Donald Trump’s projected win in Ohio has put the former president in good stead for overall victory, according to one commentator.
Bournemouth University US election pundit Russ Evans said Trump had a “huge advantage” over his rival Kamala Harris in large parts of the Buckeye State.
“It’s looking good for Trump,” Evans said.
While Ohio isn’t a swing state, crucially it has predicted the winner of every presidential election since 1960 with the exception of 2020.
With 86% of the vote counted Trump had secured 55% to Harris’ 43%, bagging 17 electoral college votes in the process.
Evans, a political psychology MA student, added: “Nowadays Ohio is considered a moderately safe Republican state.
“Trump has an ability to turn out rural voters, of which there are a lot in Ohio.
“It’s a midwestern state but it’s been heavily influenced by the Bible Belt states as well.”
