Abortion ban could be catastrophic

Throughout this campaign, the candidates’ opinions on abortion rights have been a constant source of debate between the presidential candidates and the nation.

Pundit Claudine Magallanes thinks that Donald Trump’s continual “back and forth as to whether he would implicate a nationwide abortion ban” could be catastrophic.

First, it could result in the rise of unsafe ‘backstreet’ abortions, which could result in serious health risks, according to Magallanes, who revealed that “approximately 68,000 women” have died from the post-abortion side effects.

The pundit also explained that alternative methods, such as drug and alcohol abuse to “ensure a miscarriage,” could lead to possible addiction. Furthermore, Magallanes emphasised that if a miscarriage was unsuccessful, the child could be at “risk of experiencing resentment, abuse, and neglect” if the mother was suffering from substance addiction.

Should the ban be implemented, children would not be the only ones at risk, as postnatal depression is very common in women, especially those who would have chosen to abort the fetus. According to Magallanes, this also increases the “risk of suicide and reckless endangerment” among mothers.

While Republicans may argue that there are alternate options for women who do not want to keep their child, such as foster care and adoption, these are not always the best and safest choices. “Foster care,” says Magallanes, “is not always a positive experience for children as it can affect development and mental health.”
